Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences
Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences, based in Krefeld and Mönchengladbach, is one of the largest universities in Germany. Prof. Dr. Stockmanns and Prof. Dr. Naroska are members of the competence center FAST - Research for Intelligent Assistance Systems and Technologies and have been working on the use of VR and AR for the training and education of processes and learning content for years. In the BMBF project "ARSuL - AR-based support for learning in the sanitary, heating and air-conditioning trade", for example, a VR/AR-based system was developed that supports trainees and experienced employees alike in learning, maintaining and installing heating systems on site. The project compared the effectiveness of VR versus AR versus traditional learning methods (Beckmann et al, 2019). FAST also has many years of experience in the development of complex mechatronic systems. In the DigiCoach project (funded by MKW NRW), the formation of topic-specific, time- and location-independent learning groups in virtual spaces was investigated.
